Outline:

A two day seminar focussed on managing the particular challenges posed
in the building of large-scale monuments for the new Medieval &
Renaissance Galleries at the V&A.

Translating an ambitious concept into practical reality required a high
level of collaboration and negotiation beyond professional borders.
Architects, designers, engineers and curators worked with conservators,
managers and technicians to realise their vision - and to deliver it on
schedule.

Based on first hand practical experience, this seminar will look at the
logistical complexity of moving, storing, treating and installing many
large scale objects, often with inherited problems and frequently
comprised of numerous individual component parts. We shall examine the
demands that such a project had on the team both physically and in terms
of conservation approach and ethics. All aspects will be considered over
two days of presentations, tours, and poster sessions, welcoming
stimulating discussion. A broad range of disciplines will be represented
with the aim of sharing solutions, resolving problems, and reaching
conclusions that can be applied to similar large-scale projects.
