Taiteilijatapaaminen
Lauantaina 28.2.2009 kello 14 Carrie Schneider kertoo teoksistaan ja
työskentelystään. Tilaisuudessa näytetään myös Carrie Schneiderin videoteos
What I Can´t Say (2008). Tapahtuman kieli on englanti. Museon pääsymaksu.

Yhdysvaltalaisen Carrie Schneiderin (s.1979) Pidä itsesi -näyttely koostuu
videoista ja sarjallisista valokuvateoksista, joista suurin osa nähdään nyt
ensi kertaa Suomessa. Schneider on asettanut itsensä kameran eteen
psykologisesti latautuneissa valokuvissa ja videoinstallaatioissa.
Uusimmissa teoksissaan Schneider pohtii suhdettaan ympäristöön ja eritoten
suomalaiseen luontoon, joka kiinnostaa häntä myös oman isoäidin juurien
kautta. Outo ja epätodellinen tunnelma on läsnä Schneiderin lavastetuissa
teoksissa.

Carrie Schneider valmistui taiteiden maisteriksi Chicagon The School of the
Art –instituutista v. 2007. Tämän jälkeen hän jatkoi opiskelujaan (Skowhegan
School of Painting and Sculpture) ja tuli Suomeen Kuvataideakatemiaan
Fulbright Fellow –stipendillä. Hänen teoksiaan on ollut aiemmin esillä
Bakussa, Third Azerbaijan Bienniaalissa ja hänellä on ollut näyttelyitä mm.
Chicagossa (Monique Meloche Gallery), Torontossa (Gallery 44), Trondheimissa
(Galleri KiT).

The Tense Territories exhibition, which investigates the concepts of
personal space, control, ownership and identity, offers multiple views of
new forms in contemporary photography. The exhibition is made up of four
solo exhibitions. The participating artists, Mohamed Bourouissa, Sini
Pelkki, Carrie Schneider and Sauli Sirviö, bring viewers face to face with
the fragility and multiformity of the construction of identity.

Artist Talk February the 28Th at 2 pm
Carrie Schneider leads a tour of the Hang on to yourself exhibition. Also
screening of the video work What I Can´t Say (2008). Museum entrance fee.

Carrie Schneider’s (s.1979) Hang on to yourself exhibition comprises videos
and series of photographs, most of which are now being seen for the first
time in Finland. Schneider has turned the camera on herself in
psychologically charged photographs and video installations. In her
exhibition In her latest works Schneider explores her relationship with her
environment, and especially with Finnish nature. Her works combine narrative
and staged situations in a strange, unreal atmosphere.

Carrie Schneider earned her Master of Fine Arts from The School of the Art
Institute of Chicago in 2007. On graduating she attended the Skowhegan
School of Painting and Sculpture and the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in
Helsinki as a Fulbright Fellow. Recent and upcoming exhibitions include the
Third Azerbaijan Biennial in Baku, Gallery 44 in Toronto, Monique Meloche
Gallery, Chicago, Galleri KiT in Trondheim, Norway.
