7. Jokiaho-biennale INK & WASH esillä 26.05.2007 -10.06.2007 Taidekulmassa ( Karstuntie 17) Lohjalla.

Ismo Jokiahon järjestyksessään seitsemäs Lohja-biennale taidekulmassa tuo näytteille itämaistyyppisiä Sumi-e ja Shodo -mustetöitä vuosilta 2006 - 2007. Näyttelyn itämaisuus näkyy teosten tiukkana ja pelkistettynä esteettisenä ilmaisuna ja avaruutena. Sumi-e ( Mustemaalaus) on eräs alun perin itäaasialainen monokromaattisen mustemaalauksen tyyli, jolle on luonteenomaista ja tyypillistä voimakkaat mustevedot sekä veden käyttö, joilla eliminoidaan kaikki muu paitsi kuvattavan kohteen perimmäinen luonne.

Mustemaalaukselle tyypillistä taustafilosofiaa kuvallisessa merkityksessä ovat vastakohdat ja harmonia. Näiden voimien ja kontrastien yhdistyminen tasapainoiseksi kokonaisuudeksi on Jokiahon maalausten perimmäinen pyrkimys ja päämäärä. Tähän päämäärään matkataan käyttäen hyvin rajoitetuttua välineistöä. Tarvitaan vain pensseli, mustekivi, mustetikku sekä vettä ja paperia. Mustemaalauksen taiteessa on olennaista heijastaa kuvattavan kohteen henkeä ja elinvoimaa enemmän kuin suoranaista yhdennäköisyyttä kuvauksen ja kohteen ulkoisen olomuodon välillä. Taiteilijan henkilökohtainen suhde mustemaalaukseen ja sen ilmaisuun on tietyllä tavalla looginen jatkumo kaikelle sille mihin hän on ilmaisussaan aina pyrkinyt. Kyseessä ei siis ole mikään taiteilijan henkilökohtainen eksotiikan "nälkä" tai "itämaisuuden jano", vaan puhtaasti keino tiivistää taiteellista ilmaisua. Taiteilijan intentiona on myös osoittaa se perustavanlaatuinen seikka, että itämainen taide ei lopultakaan eroa niin paljon länsimaisesta modernista taiteesta kuin voisi äkkiseltään kuvitella.

Taiteilijan teokset edustavat samaa inhimillistä taiteen jatkumoa, joka eroaa oikeastaan vain ja ainoastaan yhteiskunnalliselta pohjalta ja taiteellisilta olosuhteiltaan. Jokiaholle taide ja taideteos heijastelee omaa sisäistä olemustaan, muotoa sekä laatua, joka parhaimmillaan täydentää meitä ihmisolentoina. Etsivä silmä löytää sisäisen muodon!

Näyttelyyn voi tutustua tiistaista perjantaihin kello 12 -18, ja viikonloppuisin ( la-su) kello 12 -16 välisenä aikana osoitteessa Taidekulma, Karstuntie 17, 08100 Lohja.

Taiteilija Ismo Jokiahon tuotantoa esittelevä taidekirja Elää ja työskentelee julkaistaan Ink and Wash -näyttelyn myötä. Kirjassa esitellään taiteilijan tuotantoa vuosilta 2004-2006. Lisäksi kirjaan on lisätty myös Ismo Jokiahon taiteilijantiestä kertova essee. Elää ja työskentelee -kirja on ensimmäinen Ismo Jokiahon tuotantoa käsittelevä virallinen julkaisu, ja näin muodoin arvokas ja luotettava tietolähde taiteilijasta sekä hänen työskentelytavoistaan.

Ink and Wash - Exhibition in Taidekulma, Lohja, Finland 26.05.2007 - 10.06.2007

Artist Ismo Jokiaho will celebrate his 7th Anniversary of Jokiaho biennale titled as Ink and Wash to be held at gallery Taidekulma in the City of Lohja in southwest of Finland. It is a unique opportunity to see the style of the Artist presents at the moment in the year 2007.

Once again the extraordinary Ismo Jokiaho will fill the Taidedekulma gallery with his astounding works of Modern ink and Sumi-e style paintings. His last exhibition in Taidekulma gallery (in 2005) drew fashinating mixture of eastern and western atmosphere. Starting on may 26 and running through June 10, 2007, visitors will enjoy stunning Ink and Watercolour mixtures of paintings, where East and North goes together towards beauty and harmony.

The works of Ismo Jokiaho is inspired by the art of Japan and traditional modern western modernist art. For the artist the things of "Japanese, or eastern" are seeing mainly as source material for his very own style. Sometimes the influence is barely evident and other times quite literal. This exhibition will demonstrate that despite great diversity of different cultures of the east and west, the paintings come together as a unified body, reflecting Ismo Jokiahos' own consistent

and pure artistic vision. The artist wishes to bring the spectator closer to the beauty and spiritual power of his paintings which are combinations from modern western style and eastern Zen style Sumi-e paintings.

The Art Gallery's exhibition is free and open to the public. The Art Gallery's hours are from Tuesday to Friday from 12:00am to 6:00pm and weekends from 12:00am to 4:00pm.

About the Artist.

Ismo Jokiaho was born in 25th of February in1965 in Saarijärvi, central part of Finland.

Nowadays he lives and works in the city called Tampere. He began to paint regularly when he was about twenty years old. After a one crucial trip in 1984 to different European art museums from Paris to Berlin. After that experiment his interest for painting grew.

His early paintings were influenced by the expressionism and expressionist and his personal life situations and realities. Those days the Young artist searches for clarity, purity and straightforwardness of expression. He started using paints squeezed straight out from the tubes instead of mixing the colours while painting. He was aiming at his inspirations and feelings on canvas straight and raw. 

After his graduating in 1992 from the cultural studies, arts and litterature from the University of Joensuu he started to paint with abstract manner, because that represented something quite apart from what words could express. By using straightforward colors, he started playing with "accidental" shapes that he would create using sponges, stancils or just pouring and splattering paint directly on canvas. By using these magical shapes as guides or inspiration took him towards the perfect and pure creation, very material but somehow deeply spiritual at the same time. 

Eventually he found Sumi-e style of painting in December 2006. As an art form, Sumi-e gave

him all the elements he needed for creating: Purity, intensity, chaos, power, perfection, discipline and beauty. Nowadays he paints again with figurative motifs and subjects but the attitude toward painting has not change a bit from the beginning. He is still an artist to walk in his own roads, wherever it might be taking him. His paintings are still total worlds of their own, nothing more or less.
